Family Medicine Residency Program
The Wheeling Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program is a fully accredited program covering three years of residency training. Established in 1975, the residency program has had many years to perfect the training of residents. Many former residents are now faculty members providing education to new residents. The program offers six residency positions each year.
- Family Medicine is the only residency program based at Wheeling Hospital, which affords residents the opportunity to work directly with primary care physicians and specialists.
- Flexibility in curriculum design allows six months of electives over the second and third year. The program also offers obstetrical experience through the OB-Gyn team.
- Wheeling Hospital is a 276-bed facility with state-of-the-art programs and equipment.
- Opportunities to broaden the scope of learning exist through rotations with physicians in the community.
- Clinical practice in the Family Health Center is designed to parallel the private practice setting.
- The Sports Medicine Program provides an emphasis on musculoskeletal medicine in primary care and experience as a team physician on a local, state and national level.
