Criteria for Residency Applicants
Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)
- Graduate of medical school in the U.S. and Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).
- Graduate of college of osteopathic medicine in the U.S. accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
- Graduate of medical school outside the U.S. and Canada with a current, valid certificate from the ECFMG or with a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. licensing jurisdiction in which you are training.
- Graduate of a medical school outside the U.S. who has completed a Fifth Pathway program provided by an LCME-accredited medical school.
- Graduation from medical school within five years.
- Minimum score on USMLE Step 1: score of 75 or above.
- Minimum score on USMLE Step 2: score of 75 or above.
- Number of attempts: maximum of one total failure (no failure on CS).
We will consider sponsoring J1 or H1B visa. If an applicant selects the H1B visa, all associated expenses are the responsibility of the applicant. If you choose an H1B visa, you must have passed your USMLE Step 3 by March 16, 2010.
AOA
- Graduate from an AOA-accredited college of osteopathic medicine.
- Graduation from medical school within five years.
- Passed COMLEX II, including the clinical skills portion of the exam.
- Be or become a member of the AOA and ACOFP. These memberships must be maintained throughout residency.
- Be appropriately licensed in the state in which training is conducted.
- In order to be accepted as an OGME-2 resident, the applicant must have completed an AOA- approved internship or its equivalent.
Variety of Electives
Some of the electives available in the Family Medicine Residency are: cast application, critical care, endocrinology, geriatrics, hematology, infectious disease, nephrology, obstetrics, office gynecology, orthopedics, outpatient surgery, pulmonary medicine, plastic surgery, procedures, psychiatry, sports medicine and urology.
