The Women's Center
The comfortable surroundings of the Women's Center begin with a lobby set up like a living room. Women report to a private registration area in Medical Tower 4, rather than going to outpatient registration, for mammograms, bone density tests and certain lab tests related to pregnancy.
Bone density screenings are done inside the center, while mammograms are conducted nearby. An incontinence clinic is located one floor up. Also available is the ABBI system for minimally invasive breast biopsy.
Wheeling Hospital has made a four-tiered commitment to improving the health services available to women in the area. Those four key components are:
Sensitivity to women's needs.
The center is staffed in large part by women and is in a safe, convenient location, adjacent to a well-lit, level parking lot.
Education and empowerment.
In an effort to have well-informed patients, the Women's Center has its own library with patient-friendly computers and video programs. Patients are able to examine topics such as mammography, hormone replacement therapy and Pap smear abnormalities. Copying machines are available for patients to duplicate any useful information they find. Internet access also is offered, along with a television, VCR and videotapes.
A multidisciplinary approach.
This gives the patient access to the wisdom and judgment of a whole team of medical specialists. Gynecologists, endocrinologists, gastroenterologists, physical therapists, oncologists, nutritionists, urologists and others work together to provide the best possible care for patients. More than 250 doctors currently have staff privileges at Wheeling Hospital, with many of them located in professional centers at the facility.
An individualized match.
Wheeling Hospital offers choice through the largest group of health care providers in the Ohio Valley area, and with specialists in a large variety of disciplines. In addition, virtually all payment plans ate accepted.
