Wheeling Hospital
Wheeling Hospital, established in 1850, was the first hospital in the Ohio Valley in operation between Pittsburgh and Cincinnati, and one of the first hospitals in West Virginia. It also was the first hospital in West Virginia to open coronary and intensive care units. In 1994, it became the first hospital in the Northern Panhandle to provide open heart surgery.
The Wheeling Hospital family includes the current acute care facility opened in 1975; Belmont Community Hospital and Belmont Community Health Center, both in Bellaire, OH; clinics in St. Clairsville, Powhatan Point and Woodsfield, OH; clinics in Wheeling and Wellsburg, WV.; and the Howard Long Wellness Center, Bishop Joseph H. Hodges Continuous Care Center and Kidney Dialysis Center, all at the Wheeling Hospital campus.
